This book covers several recent high-throughput publications in Biotechniques including microarrays for high-through DNA and RNA screening, high-throughput protein screening and functional analysis. This book also contains a great chapter on protocols of aRNA preparation from single cell which is very useful for microarray research.

As in the second edition, this book provides a step-by-step outline of the techniques involved in genome mapping and sequencing. However, the text has now been expanded to cover genomics and its sub-disciplines. Sections on genome sequencing and bioinformatics have been revised and new chapters have been included which cover comparative genomics, functional genomics and proteomics. The book concludes with an new chapter describing a variety of ways to utilize genome analysis and sequencing in biology, medicine and agriculture. A very good introductory book to the people new to genomics field.

In my knowledge, this is the first organized effort to present a synoptic view of systems biology. The best part is that all the contributors are themselves active scientists in the field and obviously therefore information presented is very reliable. I would strongly recommend this book for beginners, though I am sure professionals will find it equally interesting.

Functional Genomics : A Practical Approach (The Practical Approach Series, 235)

Price: US$55.00

Editorial Reviews From Book News, Inc.
A laboratory manual and guide to all of the key methods available for gene and protein expression profiling in a variety of systems. These include specific large-scale approaches, such as cDNA microarrays, serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE), and proteomics, as well as techniques that are more widely applicable, such as differential display and suppression subtraction hybridization. In all cases, chapter authors are either the developers of the methods or experienced users. Includes a list of suppliers. Hunt teaches anatomy at University College London, UK. Livesey teaches genetics at Harvard Medical School.Book News, Inc.®  Portland, OR

Editorial Reviews
From Book News, Inc.
McCormack (Allecure Corp., US) and Galas (Keck Graduate Institute, US) present 12 contributions that examine the technology used to study the whole genome at a holistic level. The editors first provide a historical perspective on the growth of the technologies, while contributors then look at broad techniques and describe human genome function. More detailed chapters than look at more specific topics such as transgenic technologies, the use of mass spectrometry of nucleic acids, live cell assays, detection of single nucleopeptide polymorphisms, automation and robotics in laboratories and computational DNA sequence analysis and automation.
